Scottish Borders Council are seeking a full time permanent Community Link Worker to be based in Hawick Town Hall, though the post will require travel throughout the Scottish Borders. This post is contracted for 35 hours per week with a salary of £19,255 per annum.


The purpose of this role is to encourage and enable adults who experience mental health issues or mental illness to live an active, more connected and purposeful life in their community. To work jointly with the Local Area Coordinator in working for change within local communities, raising awareness and educating the public so that people who experience mental health issues/mental ill health have equal opportunities for a full and healthy life. This will include the provision of direct support to people who experience mental health issues/mental ill health to enable them to access a range of opportunities in the local community and to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence in a range of areas.

Essential criteria

Essential requirements for this role are: SVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification/relevant experience; Current driving licence and access to a vehicle; Good interpersonal skills; Experience of working with people who experience inequalities; Experience of taking an enabling approach in supporting people who experience inequalities to develop their skills, knowledge and experience and/or confidence and; IT Skills.

Desirable criteria

Desirable requirements for this role are: HNC/SVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience; Knowledge of advocacy in relation to people who have/are experiencing mental ill-health; Working knowledge of relevant legislation and policy context including the Mental Health Act & Adult Support and Protection Act etc.; Ability to use video/digital camera and other media; Experience of working with people who have/are experiencing mental ill health and; Experience of lone working with clients in a community setting.

Additional information

A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is essential for this post.
