Description

City of Edinburgh Council are seeking a full time permanent Social Care Assistant to be based in Drumbrae Care Home. Applications are welcome from those who have not previously worked in the Social Care sector.

Duties

The purpose of this role is to provide care to some of Edinburgh's most vulnerable residents. Care workers help people to live independent, full and valued lives and help maintain their dignity while helping with personal care such as bathing, dressing and meals.

Essential criteria

Essential requirements for this role are: Experience of working with the general public; Ability to obtain SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care within the required timescale; Confidence to raise awareness to ensure changing care needs of service users are met; Understands importance of providing good standard of personal care; Able to follow established standards of practice; Understands a person's need for independence and dignity; Willingness to include others in decision making; Friendly, respectful and approachable; Readiness to listen to others; Able to write and speak English that is clear and easy for others to understand; Able to record and update information accurately and follow written instructions; Able to notice and respond to changing needs of service users; Able to provide continuity of care through regular and effective service and; Able to undertake physical tasks.

Desirable criteria

Desirable requirements for this role are: Experience in a caring role; Experience of a working environment where appropriate behaviour/language and sensitivity are important; SVQ Level 2 of similar qualification that meets Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) requirements; Full driving licence; Committed to own personal and professional development and; Able to develop good working relationships.

Additional information

This role is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by City of Edinburgh Council.
