City of Edinburgh Council are seeking a full time permanent Social Care Worker to work days in Drumbrae Care Home. This post is contracted for 36 hours per week with a salary of £18,860.


The purpose of this role is: To assist the Team Leader to develop a personal plan detailing care and support required; To ensure the health, well-being and emotional needs of service users are met and that their individual outcomes are achieved; To assist the Team Leader in the monitoring and reviewing of individual service user's personal plans; Responsibility for meeting service users' assessed needs and agreed outcomes as part of a multidisciplinary team approach to practice and; To provide a personal care service compatible with the policies, procedures and standards set by the Department and the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care and the SSSC.

Essential criteria

Essential requirements for this role are: Previous relevant experience in a caring role; SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or above or other relevant qualification to meet Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) requirements; Able to make decisions and take initiative; Understands importance of a good standard of person centred care; Understands a person's need for independence and dignity; Able to follow established standards of practice; Readiness to include others in decision making; Ability to write/speak English that is clear and easy for others to understand; Readiness to listen to others; Friendly, respectful and approachable; Able to record/update information accurately and follow written instructions; Able to notice and respond to changing needs; Able to provide a regular and effective service and; Able to undertake physical tasks.

Desirable criteria

Desirable requirements for this role are: SVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care or equivalent or ability to obtain within an agreed timescale; Full driving licence; Knowledge of National Care Standards; Committed to own personal and professional development; Able to develop good working relationships; Able to structure reports, record risk assessments and basic IT skills and; Able to work with informal carers.

Additional information

This role is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by City of Edinburgh Council.
